Quinceanera Story Part 4: Tables and Chairs

As I mentioned on my previous posts about my daughter's Quinceanera party, Mari has a lot of ideas:she wants snowflake kind of winter in Florida theme(yes,in june and in Florida) lots of bling, red and black as base colors, turtles and ladybugs and personalized items that can include also red tattoo roses and bling again. Her name and the number 15 placed with purpose all around.

Planning a quinceanera takes many months and is not an easy task, but if you plan your quinceanera party (like I'm doing) with plenty of time it can turn into a perfect fifteen celebration.

Here are some other items from fellow artisans and crafters that could be a great addition to the venue.I will take care of the shoes and they will take care of the rest. Now,I'm blown away with all these spectacular creations..I wonder if I can custom design everything with her theme.

Meet Aly,Crochet that never sleeps.

I met Aly 2 years ago on our team of Fashion,Design and Lifestyles.
Originally from Venezuela, you can see nature inspired pieces in every one of her crocheted creations, probably because she was always surrounded by green, trees, jungle. Her profile is simple and clear about who she is and her style: "I love Fiber arts, nature, flowers and birds are my fav! :-) Love my family with all I have"
When she finished this piece she said: I visited a Lake, right here in south Louisiana... the day was pretty and inspiring... then my necklace came to live today... :-)

One of my favorites,it is a complete artwork or work of art,it seems like her hands create magic.

Another of my favorites in peacock colors.Something else we share.

Her new line of hair pieces is outstanding. I have one that I wear every time I want to make a statement.

Meet Melissa from www.RainyDayArt.etsy.com

Who are you?
I'm Melissa, the artist at RainyDayArt.

What do you create?
I work in a variety of mediums, but my main focus is fiber art. I knit, spin, felt, dye, sew, and also make button magnets and some ceramics. I would get so tired of knitting just one type of item to sell. I also really like to do custom orders.

How long have you been doing your craft?
I started knitting when I was in grade school, and gradually expanded to many more fiber arts. I opened my etsy shop in January, 2007.

What do you like about creating?
I love making stuff. It's such a great feeling to have something that you created work the way you intended whether is a mug you made for tea or hats you made for your friends. I think the best feeling is when others love the things you made.

What do you like about your business?
Well, I get to know that other people like my art enough to buy it. I also really like all the community on etsy and other sites. I enjoy setting it up just the way I want and tracking my site and that kind of stuff.

How did you find out about Etsy?
I don't remember. :p

Do you sell your products anywhere other than Etsy?
Yes, I have a shop at http://RainyDayArt.artfire.com and I've sold at some art shows. I have one coming up. I'll be at the Fourth Friday Arts event on January 23rd in Crown Point, IN.
I'm still setting up the artfire shop. It has the same patterns as my etsy shop, and I'm slowly adding other items. One of a kind items will only be in one place though.

What do you do when you're not creating products for your shop?
Oh, I tend to have my head in the clouds...
I also enjoy doing all sorts of other things, lots out outdoor activities like hiking, skiing, camping, and kayaking, as welling as reading and computer games, and I have a little kitty that needs me.

What are some other sites to find out more about you and what you love to create? (Blog, Flikr, MySpace, etc.)
My blog is at http://rainydayart.blogspot.com/ it has quite a few posts. I have all sorts of stuff up there from what I'm working on, to the latest blog carnival, plus some free knitting patterns. I'm also on flickr.

Thanks Melissa

We were at the Front Page of etsy today

Aly's creation was featured this morning about 11 am at the Frnt Page of etsy. This is how she describes the romantic and more than original collar:

This collar is a collaboration project with norakaren.etsy.com

The peacock has been handpainted by her on denim Fabric and I had designed the collar with denim and crocheted lace to be the perfect accesory to go with jeans and a simple top.

The colors are just exciting and striking... greens, and blues, the lace is royal blue.

Good job Aly and cheers! for more to come.

Show me your feathers

The creative flow never ends. I woke up this gorgeous saturday morning to the fact that Aly projected her signature crochet on a hand painted piece of denim. Some people never stops. And that overwhelms me,but in a good way. She put together a painted denim patch showcasing my famous peacock with her stunning blue waves and threads to create a collar wearable over a tank top and make it shine!
Thanks Aly,you amaze me!

NEW RECYCLED AND UPCYCLED DRESSES

I have made this Collection of dresses from pieces of jeans legs, hems and recycled jean shirts. The patch work idea gives this item a colorful and unique motif. The skirt is A line and has a complete flow in a shape of a triangle. The tops are decorated with zippers, tafetan silk fabric,or beads. They are a Sexy sillohuete and they attach around the neck with a denim string,a beaded necklace in peacock tones or a hand crochetes string made by a fellow artist. I painted the red paisley and then added turquoise beads. They don't stretch because they are made frim 100% cotton but the halter string can be adapted to any neck lenght. Total lenght from top of the neck is 37". Absolutely unique. RThey can be made in other sizes by request but denim parts or colors can be slightly different. For the hand made and recycle lovers.

I used to do a little each sumer and this year my creativity has been focused on that.
How long have you been doing your craft?
Since I was a very little girl, my oldest sister taught me the basics, and while she was sewing, she kept next to her, we were always busy doing something, we never had time to be bored!, Through the years, I became really obsessed with crocheting, you wouldn't believe!! all the places I used to be crocheting, my classmates and teachers always saw me crocheting ! my family and friends, everybody knew about it!, seriously, I can't stop!.
What do you like about creating?
I love seeing just a thin thread becoming something...beads and threads are my favorites materials.
What do you like about your business?
I like creating something for people that they treasure, I love spreading the word about an art that many people consider something from the past, I hear all the time, "my grandma used to crochet".
How did you find out about Etsy?
One day I was thinking of designing a flower and I started looking for real pictures of flowers, I found flickr and next thing, I found etsy!
Do you sell your products anywhere other than Etsy?
Not right now.

Aly's Creation Feather based

Aly Hymel finished her necklace. She is a wonderful artist who displays her crafty imagination on crochet necklaces. Last week she requested some hand painted peacock feathers from me to create new additions to her shop. When she finished it she wrote me back an e-mail saying this: it was great to work with your art, look what I did !! Thanks for sharing your art with me, thanks for inspiring me to create this piece and thanks for being FDL team member!!!

and she added:
One of the trends this year has been feathers, they have inspired me to create several pieces of jewelry, but using what I love, crochet!
When I saw Nora's art I had this idea in my mind that somehow I could combine my crochet with her art , peacock is such a beautiful bird and it means so many great things in different cultures around the world, that reading about it, just made my imagination fly... after feeling the inspiration, this one is the is the result....!

Thanks Aly for all the compliments and I wish you all the best luck and sales with your new merchandise....And with all of you, wonderful bloggers, I share her inspiration and creativity
Cheers
Nora
