Desciption:
Members of the Fashion, Design and Lifestyle team (fdlteam) will host an online Trunk Show "live" using one of Etsy's virtual lab rooms. The designers and artists will present a wide range of fashion, art and jewelry inspired by the beauty of Spring. Many of the artists will be on hand to chat with the viewing public about their design process. So please join us for an evening of colorful items and commentary. We hope to see you there!

Who are you?
I'm Melissa, the artist at RainyDayArt.

What do you create?
I work in a variety of mediums, but my main focus is fiber art. I knit, spin, felt, dye, sew, and also make button magnets and some ceramics. I would get so tired of knitting just one type of item to sell. I also really like to do custom orders.

How long have you been doing your craft?
I started knitting when I was in grade school, and gradually expanded to many more fiber arts. I opened my etsy shop in January, 2007.


What do you like about creating?
I love making stuff. It's such a great feeling to have something that you created work the way you intended whether is a mug you made for tea or hats you made for your friends. I think the best feeling is when others love the things you made.

What do you like about your business?
Well, I get to know that other people like my art enough to buy it. I also really like all the community on etsy and other sites. I enjoy setting it up just the way I want and tracking my site and that kind of stuff.

How did you find out about Etsy?
I don't remember. :p

Do you sell your products anywhere other than Etsy?
Yes, I have a shop at http://RainyDayArt.artfire.com and I've sold at some art shows. I have one coming up. I'll be at the Fourth Friday Arts event on January 23rd in Crown Point, IN.
I'm still setting up the artfire shop. It has the same patterns as my etsy shop, and I'm slowly adding other items. One of a kind items will only be in one place though.


What do you do when you're not creating products for your shop?
Oh, I tend to have my head in the clouds...
I also enjoy doing all sorts of other things, lots out outdoor activities like hiking, skiing, camping, and kayaking, as welling as reading and computer games, and I have a little kitty that needs me.

GOLDEN YEARS...Remembering Heath Ledger when he was a good knight

I wanted to make a treasury in gold to remember the song of the movie,one of many good ones from A knight's tale,but it was impossible to find room. So I created one for myself and the ones who enjoy gold at this time of the year..I believe we are many....

We were at the Front Page of etsy today

Aly's creation was featured this morning about 11 am at the Frnt Page of etsy. This is how she describes the romantic and more than original collar:

The peacock has been handpainted by her on denim Fabric and I had designed the collar with denim and crocheted lace to be the perfect accesory to go with jeans and a simple top.

The colors are just exciting and striking... greens, and blues, the lace is royal blue.

A flower with my name

Last night I was following the threads on the community forum of etsy ,when I noticed I was 45 pages behind in my redaing since sunday night....This girls communicate a lot! So rather than keeping with every post I jumped into the names of any one of the member of the ONEADAYCHALLENGE team and checked their shops. That is when I found that beadflora created a flower named after every team member's name. That is so neat and wonderful, and right there I found my flower that is off course sorrounded by peacock feathers, in a black and white beading theme(very me,and actually my favorite combination) and I went to bed happy that the days wasn't only for work but for art and for people who still think of others and create thinking on them . Congrats, you made my day!

Who are you?
Aly is the person behind the hook, always, thinking about the magic world of crochet. My hook understand me and I hold her carefully. I have a little boy and husband, I am originally from Venezuela, a hot country with kind people! ;-)

What do you create?
I crochet anything that comes to my mind and I see in my dreams, inspiration is everywhere... and I never know where is going to take me next time....lately I have been more creative with necklaces, its been my favorite thing to do. I used to do a little each sumer and this year my creativity has been focused on that.
How long have you been doing your craft?
Since I was a very little girl, my oldest sister taught me the basics, and while she was sewing, she kept next to her, we were always busy doing something, we never had time to be bored!, Through the years, I became really obsessed with crocheting, you wouldn't believe!! all the places I used to be crocheting, my classmates and teachers always saw me crocheting ! my family and friends, everybody knew about it!, seriously, I can't stop!.
What do you like about creating?
I love seeing just a thin thread becoming something...beads and threads are my favorites materials.
What do you like about your business?
I like creating something for people that they treasure, I love spreading the word about an art that many people consider something from the past, I hear all the time, "my grandma used to crochet".
How did you find out about Etsy?
One day I was thinking of designing a flower and I started looking for real pictures of flowers, I found flickr and next thing, I found etsy!
Do you sell your products anywhere other than Etsy?
Not right now.
What do you do when you're not creating products for your shop?
I take care of my litlle boy and family!, my most important thing ! My universe. Our blessing. :-)

Jennifer sees the light!

I met her not long ago at the Island Fest Show in Tampa and from the start she iluminated the day. Her personality and the way she handles her business made me feel like I knew her very closely when in reality that was our first encounter.

The Palm Beach County Etsy Team goals are : to promote artists and crafters that sell on Etsy and live in the Palm Beach County area : that means: Boca Raton, Deerfield Beach,Parkland,Delray beach,Boynton Beach and any other city included in Palm Beach and Surroundings.

We work together to inspire each other, advertise and promote our businesses, communicate and share each other’s experience , and make new friends.

Our team is important because:

All our members feel that we need to promote in the area, knowing the economy actual situation,join efforts to overcome our limits and have the chance to make our shops and arts known in the area. We want to start by preparing a local show followed by other activities that allows as to be ready for the new season. For many store owners this a new possibility because we are mostly new on etsy.

All that Glam!

One of the teams that I belong to is starting a june challenge about Glam, an incredible fashion era and state of mind that it seems to be coming back to us, to stay, I don't know for how long , probably the summer will me more than enough. I read in Glam boulevard , one of my fave fashion web sites about the collection Christian Lacroix is pushing forward based on a mix between insects and glam.

Indian Summer...

Oh, how I remember that song ,it's so eighty, makes you wonder how old am I?
Well every trend in fashion comes back, ALWAYS, and now we have beteen us the tribal theme into prints,tops,tunics and every wearable item you can imagine. I was asked by the FDL Team, that means Fashion ,Design and Lifestyle to create a tribal themed item for our new summer collection and here it comes!

Another peacock bites the dust!

Kimberly asked me to paint this peacock on the dress she will be wearing on saturday for her Bridal Shower! What an honor is being there with my art in such an amazing event!

MAG is the name of the Etsy Miami based team shared by many etsian creatives and crafters. I'm so glad I met this girls personally. You know how is the internet, very useful, but so cold. Everything is virtual, no skin, no words, no emotion.
On the contrary at this meeting I felt alive, I drove into those fashion artistic and modern stores and streets that make Miami a gorgeous center for the arts. The Dress is finally ready!

I made a whole dress completly from Upcycled Denim Pants. You can call it : Blue Denim Dress with Turquoises and Paisley. The dress was constructed for the grand opening of our shared store by the members of the FDL Team. The long waited date will be June 1st so be ready for shopping!
Dress constructed in many pieces of bootleg jeans in 4 different blue denim tones. Paisley:made of hand sewn Turquoise stones and red fabric hand paint. The stitches are finished with sewing maching but the inside as well as the pattern are one of the kind. Save the earth and look gorgeous!
